In response to the ongoing security situation in Northern Israel and the growing need for reliable emergency care, Rambam Health Care Campus (Rambam) has partnered with the Ministry of Health and Municipality of Kiryat Shmona to staff a frontline medical clinic in Israel’s northernmost city.
Under an agreement signed this week between Israel’s Ministry of Health and Rambam, emergency medicine specialists are now operating at a frontline medical clinic in Kiryat Shmona. For the first time, the clinic will be open overnight and throughout the weekend, ensuring continuous emergency care for residents during a period of heightened tensions and ongoing rocket fire toward the Northern Israel.
Residents often had to travel about 45 minutes or further for emergencies
Until now, the clinic was staffed and operated for only part of the day. As a result, residents often had to travel about 45 minutes to Ziv Medical Center in Safed for minor injuries, and even farther for more complex emergencies.
Beginning yesterday, emergency medicine specialists from Rambam are working alongside the clinic’s existing team to expand services and provide residents with immediate access to urgent medical care close to home. The strengthened presence also improves preparedness for potential mass casualty events.

Rambam Director General Dr. Michal Mekel notes that the initiative reflects the hospital’s longstanding commitment to ensuring that residents of Northern Israel have access to the highest standard of medical care. As the region’s tertiary medical center and its only Level 1 trauma center, Rambam plays a central role in supporting healthcare services across the north, particularly during periods of heightened security challenges.
These measures form part of broader national efforts to ensure that residents of Northern Israel continue to receive timely, high-quality medical care despite the ongoing security situation.
