Designed and opened after the Second Lebanon War, Rambam’s Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital (FUEH) serves as a strategic asset to safeguard the health of Northern Israel when threats intensify. The FUEH was activated during the coronavirus pandemic, after October 7, during last year’s Operation Rising Lion, and again in the current conflict with Iran, Operation Roaring Lion.

3,000 employees mobilised without hesitation to prepare the FUEH
Last month, nearly 3,000 Rambam employees mobilised without hesitation to prepare the FUEH and transfer patients to safety in under 12 hours. Teams worked through repeated sirens, pausing only long enough to seek shelter before returning to the task of relocating departments and stabilising operations underground.
Rambam’s Deputy Director and senior anaesthesiologist Dr. Avi Weissman explains, “The secret here is our employees. That’s the secret. That’s what makes it work.” Their resilience, discipline, and unwavering dedication are what transform a parking garage into a fully operational hospital, ensuring that Rambam’s FUEH remains a protected lifeline when the region needs it most.
