Rambam honours outstanding nursing departments
Rambam Health Care Campus launched its 2025 Nurses’ Week celebrations by honoring the courage, compassion, and exceptional service of its nursing staff during one of the most challenging years in recent memory.
Observed globally on the birthday of Florence Nightingale—the founder of modern nursing nearly two centuries ago—International Nurses’ Week at Rambam this year focuses on the resilience and impact of nurses during the Swords of Iron War.
In a ceremony led by Director of Nursing Gila Hyams, Rambam honored outstanding nursing departments for achieving key goals outlined in their annual work plans. Later, the hospital held a special appreciation event to recognize both the volunteers and nurses who played extraordinary roles during the war. Rambam celebrated trauma coordinators, emergency response nurses, and pain and wound care specialists who treated injured soldiers on the front lines of care.
A panel discussion, “The Courage of Nurses in the Shadow of War,” brought together nurses from Rabin Medical Center (Beilinson), Barzilai Medical Center, and Clalit Health Services. These leaders shared how they have coordinated the return and reintegration of the hostages who were taken from their communities on October 7, 2023.
Following the discussion, guests also viewed “Nurses at the Heart of the Storm,” a powerful documentary by filmmaker Oren Horesh. The film highlighted personal stories of heroism, leadership, and compassion during the tragic events of October 7, 2023.
Showcasing innovative studies led by nurses
Rambam also hosted its third annual Nursing Research Day, showcasing innovative studies led by nurses. The event will take place in partnership with the Israeli Association for Nursing Research, led by Dr. Yigal Zlatkin. Professor Efrat Shadmi, Chair of the Department of Nursing at the University of Haifa, will also join Rambam’s leadership to support and encourage academic excellence among nursing staff.
The various activities throughout 2025 Nurses’ Week at Rambam reinforce the hospital’s steadfast commitment to empowering nurses as leaders in clinical care, research, and crisis response. In honoring their courage and professionalism, Rambam not only celebrates its own nursing workforce but also highlights the essential role of nurses in safeguarding the health and resilience of Israeli society—during war and in peace.
